Tia has run workshops for many many schools - from 5 year olds through to 18 year olds. She covers a diverse range of health and well-being topics in her workshop, including but not limited to: technology use, mental, emotional well-being, connection to energy, using nature to heal, different health ailments, teen parenting, using intention in life, self empowerment, grounding exercises... she can adapt the content to cater to the specific groups needs and age. Children can learn how to make their own healing balm - using only natural products and ingredients, teaching kids how to make things they can all use without needing chemicals. Tia Healey-Jellick has run numerous workshops in schools with much success - testimonials below |
What are the aims of the School workshops?
To provide an environment where students can learn how to make their own products using natural ingredients, the aim is to give the child a sense of self empowerment through creating products that they can use for themselves and their family and friends. The sense of achievement is the foremost aim for the program and we endeavor to work with each child so that they feel proud of what they have created at the end of the program

What were the outcomes for the participants?
100% participation,
100% make at least 1 balm for themselves.
How effective was the tutors planning and delivery in achieving the aims of the event?
Excellent planning and the students loved it.
Any other comments regarding this event or the tutor?
We had some reluctant boys who were not very interested in making the balm, however by the end of the lesson they were not only fully participating they loved it. They found a use for the balm as wax for their hair. We have some lovely photo’s of the day and have included an article in our school newsletter. We have also had many other staff and parents ask questions about the balm, so expect teachers from our school to book in for more.

How effective was the tutors planning and delivery in achieving the aims of the event?
One of the big reasons the event was so successful was because it was very well planned and organised. This is very important when working with a large group of children. Tia actively engaged all the children and used clear instructions, demonstrating as she went.
Any other comments regarding this event or the tutor?
This was a fantastic workshop and was greatly enjoyed by all! Being able to make their own balm (not just watch Tia make it) meant that the children were actively engaged and made the learning more meaningful. Tia was an excellent tutor; calm, confident and clear.
The handouts provided were excellent resources for the students to use during their follow-up activities (report writing).
The workshop was so successful that plans are now underway for the two senior classes to take part in a more detailed unit where they will create their own balms from native plants in the school grounds and then market their product for a fundraising event later in the year.
Ka rawe tou mahi Tia. Ka pai.

How effective was the tutors planning and delivery in achieving the aims of the event?
Tia was highly organised, very professional and was able to teach the children in a way they could understand and value. I thought her pace and delivery was excellent.
Any other comments regarding this event or the tutor?
Excellent learning opportunity. It would be great to develop this further with the children and take it to the next level (eg. recap the learning and making a more complex balm with the same group of children) or being able to offer the same session to a different group of children (as it was difficult choosing who would get to go as so many were interested).

How effective was the tutors planning and delivery in achieving the aims of the event?
The delivery was very excellent for someone who has not taught a big group of mixed aged children from 5years old to 12. The aim was very clear to expose tamariki to the natural surroundings to visit Tane Mahuta and make a Kawakawa product (rongoa) for every day use (Kawakawa balm). We visited our local ngahere and Tia took the students through a traditional procedure of karakia and really modeling respect for Tane Mahuta. Tia also showed a variety of Rongoa Maori within a radius of 100 meters in Warawara. We were very pleased with how well our tamariki responded to Tia’s knowledge of Rongoa Maori. We are a very isolated school and appreciate all external support we get about our topic studies. Having Tia in person was invaluable for our kura, tamariki, kaiako and whanau. The effectiveness of Tia’s delivery was echoed in how the parents responded positively to what their children had told them when they went home.
Any other comments regarding this event or the tutor?
Tia had a very calm nature about her with a genuine and sincere passion for the ngahere and its taonga. We are very grateful for the lessons learnt and the knowledge implanted in our tamariki and whanau to learn more about what our tupuna had in terms of rongoa Maori and what we have in our own valley. We would welcome our tuahine back to Pawarenga anytime.
A very special mihi to Whaea Mercia Smith for introducing Tia to our whanau as well as Shirley Tusini for assisting in the days mahi. I would like to thank our whanau from Pawarenga for the wonderful day.

.....ms jellick (healey) was approached upon recommendation of an early childhood group.....i was impressed with her preparation, delivery and overall organisation of the lesson. I think her manner with the children was excellent, her obvious knowledge on the subject was apparent and this ensured the success of the lesson....
